I returned to the Outlaws in 1983 and recorded and released the album "Soldiers Of Fortune" in 1986. I left the band in 1989 and I started commuting to Nashville to write and record in 1990. I formed the trio BlackHawk with fellow members Van Stephenson, and Dave Robbins in 1991 and signed a publishing deal with EMI music later that year. BlackHawk signed with Arista Records in 1992 and released it's first album in the fall of 1994. The first album went on to sell 3 million copies and established the group as a fixture on the country music landscape. We lost our partner and friend Van to cancer in 2001 and established a charity in his name.
